Word hit the street yesterday that former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan was contacted by Redskins owner Daniel Snyder about his availability as a midseason head coaching replacement for the embattled Jim Zorn. Suddenly, football coaches are episodes of “Burn Notice” that can be plugged in interchangeably at a moment’s notice. That’s the Dan Snyder we know and loathe.
“Shanahan told the franchise there was little he could do in the middle of the season for them and that changing coaches during the season in the NFL rarely works,” a Redskins management source told FanHouse. “Several people that Dan Snyder trusts have suggested, if he makes a move, he should turn it over to secondary coach Jerry Gray. That could still happen.
“We are trying to give Jim every chance to turn it around. The move to [bring in offensive consultant Sherm] Lewis is to take more off Jim’s plate, especially the play-calling, because it is not working, and that is where Jim is spending much of his time. Now he can coach the entire team. Let’s see where that gets us.” via.
The Redskins are running out of winless teams in the league to play, and one only wonders how much good Snyder and his antics will be in fixing this mess. It’s hard to believe somebody that’s friends with Tom Cruise could find himself in such competitive peril. Even if the Danielskins could get Xenu to call the plays, it still wouldn’t fix a team that’s so schematically flawed. I blame Jason Campbell. And the Jews. But mostly Campbell.

Whenever I feel sorry for my-self for being a Bills fan I think about the Redskins.
I doubt Scammyhan wants to give up millions of dollars for the chance to get vivisected in the DC media.
RETURN TO GLORY!!!!
“Dan Snyder tried to (blank), failed.” Great meme, Punte!
Shanahan is rubbing his little rat paws together in anticipation of taking over the Cowboys after Jason Garrett’s contractually obligated coaching gig fizzles over the last 4 weeks of the season.
Zorn was the wrong hire right from the start. Really, what does he know? I would’ve hired Ron Jaworski before him…I mean if I HAD to pick a shitty former QB to coach my team.
UU, Super Bowl XXVI, bitch!!!
I’m LOLing at the Chase Daniel tag.
The problems with Washington start in a place I haven’t heard anyone else bring up yet.
#1: Antwaan Randle El – Hasn’t returned a punt more than 15 yards this season…averaging 5.1 yards per punt. That seems high. He doesn’t seem to realize that the point of having the ball is to move it forward.
#2: Joe Bugel – This is hard for me to say seeing as this man coached the Hogs. But this is by far the worst O-line in the league. And it goes all the way back to Patrick Ramsey getting sacked 130 times a season.
#3: Zorn – His Pee Wee Herman haircut and his Grumpy face at the end of the game after failing to score a touchdown for the 2nd game this year make me glad I don’t drink (much) during the games.
Campbell doesn’t even make my list…All coaches need to be out, Cerrato needs to be out, we need to buy the team back from Snyder.
“That’s the Dan Snyder we know and loathe.”
Loathe? Absolutely not. I love Snyder. In the same way I love Al Davis. If there’s an idiot in the front office keeping his team down, well then that’s one less team to worry about making the post season.
I bet Snyder’s glad he’s paid Haynesworth $5.3 million for 1.5 sacks and 17 tackles so far…
Haynesworth has not been the problem at all. And Danny Boy has given out more money for less production than that.
*cough* Dana Stubblefield *cough*
i should get that looked at.
