09.10.09 DEREK JETER TIED SOME RECORD OR SOMETHING
Derek Jeter became the Yankees’ all-time hits co-leader with this base hit, his 2,721st in the bigs, down the first base line yesterday. And he should surpass Lou Gehrig on that list sometime today. Jeter isn’t overrated or underrated; people drone about him all the time and that’s fine. He’s one of the best of his era. Who I can’t stand hearing about is that gaddamned Mariano Rivera. A CLOSER CANNOT BE AN MVP. If he takes the mound with his team losing by a run, he can’t get that run back. Unless this happens. But seriously, that guy can’t retire fast enough. I would even put Jeter over Albert Pujols, but only because Jeter actually plays shortstop and Pujols just stands a first base like he’s waiting for a bus. Watch the “historic” hit after the jump. He tied a team record. Whatever.

Ok, what’s with celebrating ties. Is this soccer? When he actually breaks the record, then celebrate it. Fucking New Yorkers. Anything to pat themselves on the back.
They’re home tomorrow against Baltimore on 9/11. I bet rookie Chris Tillman has been told to serve one up to Jeter in his first at bat, because what’s good for New York is good for the nation…get fucked!!
I would even put Jeter over Albert Pujols.
/is that you, Peter King?
What pisses me off (even as a Yankee fan) is how people say he’s the best Yankee ever. Are you fucking kidding me? Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe Dimaggio, Mickey Mantle?
Albert Pujols is not only a Gold Glove first baseman, he has played over 300 games as an outfielder. He has also played almost 100 games at third base. You can think what you like, and you can say whatever you think will make your blog funny - but if you think anyone in the league right now is a better player than Albert Pujols, the joke is on you.
No disrespect to Derek Jeter. He is a beast, a first-ballot HOF’er, and fully deserving of the title “Mr. October”. There’s just no need to bring Pujols into it. If he stays healthy, he will go down as the greatest right-handed hitter the game has ever seen. You’re just going to make yourself look silly calling him anything less.
That’s quite a pic. He’s so proud he peed himself.
That’s a bold statement there Gonzo…seeing as Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Cap Anson, Jimmie Fox, Frank Robinson, Honus Wagner, Ricky Henderson and even A-Rod and Man-Ram are all right handed. Pujols has one gold glove (2006) and he’s ranked 17th in fielding % this year among first baseman. So let’s slow down that stroke before you mess up you laptop.
P.S. Reggie Jackson always is and always will be Mr. October, remember that.
BL - I told myself I wasn’t going to get into an internet argument today, but since I like Artie so much - I’ll oblige you.
Firstly, if you want to include guys from the 1800’s who couldn’t muster up 100 home runs in 20 seasons, in a conversation about the best RH hitters of all time - that’s up to you. Same goes for the juicers. Manny and A-Rod aren’t legit in my book. And Ricky? A .279 hitter who barely scratched 3000 hits in 25 years? Come on.
So let’s look at your three sensible suggestions - Mays, Aaron, and to a lesser extent, Robinson. All studs, all played over 21 seasons, and right now the title of best RH hitter of all time clearly belongs to one of them. Now, before I even mention numbers, I know that a player can not be expected to keep the same pace in the latter stages of his career. However, just for reference, Pujols’ career BA is 30 points higher than any of those guys, his OBP is 40 points higher, and his SLG% is over 70 points higher. For HR/RBI Mays had 660/1903 (22 seasons), Aaron 755/2297 (23), and Robinson 586/1812 (21). Pujols is at 366/1101, in the middle of his NINTH season, and he’s not yet 30 years old. I trust you can do math.
I never said Pujols is currently the best RH hitter of all time, I said “If he stays healthy, he will go down as the greatest right-handed hitter the game has ever seen.” Can you really formulate a well-worded (you laptop?) argument against that? Oh yeah, one more thing… Aaron 1 MVP, Mays and Robinson 2. Pujols currently has 2. You have any doubt number three is on its way this year? You think that will be it?
I could care less about what Yankee fans call their heroes, I just have a tendency to look at numbers when making claims. Jeter has taken that title, quite fairly, from RJ. But I’ll leave that for you to wonder about at night when you hop into bed with your Bronx Bomber footed-PJs on.
Artie rules.
lol, that’s right attack a single typo. Yep, use that as the basis of your rebuttal. Nice work, always the sign of a failed argument. And it was hardly an argument, more of a statement of facts.
All I said was that you made a bold statement about Pujols ending his career as the best righty ever, as he has a huge hill to climb. Pujols is awesome, never said he wasn’t. probably the best in the game right now.
However, that being said, you can stick your juicers comment up your ass because who knows how many past sluggers were juicing BEFORE testing came in to play. You and Selig can go share a cup of earl grey tea and wipe you self righteous asses with your satin doilies. What if Poo-holes turns up on congress’ list of 104? What then?
P.S. Go back and read my first post at the top of the page and see if you still think I have Yankee PJ’s. Go cry yourself to sleep on your custom made Pujols cock shaped pillow tonight. And most importantly, reeeeeeeeelax.
Me relax? You’re the one talking about asses, cocks, stroking, and getting fucked. You really should get out more, there are women out there. Dude, you seriously mistook the tone of my post - especially if you think I’m a Selig sympathizer. As for poor rebuttals, way to completely disregard those pesky little stats. Again, man, look at the numbers. Home runs don’t just appear out of nowhere the way the did during the steroid era.
