UPDATE: MyFOX Houston found the dashcam footage from the incident. It’s after the jump.

Texans running back Ryan Moats was obstructed from entering a Plano-area hospital last week after Plano police pulled him over in the ER parking lot for running a red light. When Moats attempted to explain that he, his wife, and another woman were there to see Moats’ dying mother-in-law, Officer Robert Powell of the Dallas Police Department refused to let him do so. From WFAA:
Dashcam video from the Dallas officer’s patrol car captured the incident.
“Get in there,” Officer Powell yelled out to Tamishia Moats, Ryan’s wife, as she exited the car. “Let me see your hands. Get in there. Put your hands on the car.”
“Excuse me, my mom is dying,” Moats said.
Moats and the other woman ignored Officer Powell’s commands and rushed inside the hospital to see her mother.
Even after pleas from nurses at the hospital and another police officer, Officer Powell would not relent.
“I’ve got seconds before she’s gone, man,” Moats said to the officer.
“Shut your mouth,” the officer said. “Shut your mouth. You can either settle down and cooperate or I can just take you to jail for running a red light.”
The clash shocked Moats.
“For him to not even be sympathetic at all, and basically we’re dogs or something and we don’t matter, it basically shocked me,” Moats said.
“I can screw you over,” Officer Powell said. “I would rather not do that. You obviously will dictate everything that happens; and right now, your attitude sucks.”
By the time Moats was allowed into the ER, his mother-in-law, Jonetta Collinsworth, had already passed away. The Dallas police launched an investigation and Officer Powell has been assigned to the dispatch division pending that investigation.
Fortunately, Dashcam trumped DWB in this instance. It’s just sad that you can’t even run a red light near hospitals any more. When you think about it, that’s really the best place to do it.

Officer Powell was having a bad day. He hadn’t had his liter-a-cola yet.
Looks like Lt Farva is going to be working the radio for a while. What a jackass.
what the crap? why didnt anyone call me?
Dying relatives and emergency situations are no excuse for poor manners.
Officer Toonces is strict, but fair.
I think we should all avoid a rush to judgement as to whether this was a racial issue. Maybe Officer Powell just hates the Texans?
Breaking News: Water is wet
I think it’s obvious what Officer Powell should have done: opened fire on everyone in the hospital.
What is he, a Texas police officer, or a fucking pussy?
Just wanted to point out the cop was from Dallas PD, not Plano PD as you stated. I live in Plano and if a Plano cop pulled him over they would have done way more than that, i.e. search the car for drugs and call Powell’s story of a dying grandma a lie.
Fuck the po-leece
Officer Powell is going to light my ass on fire.
On his way back to the station, he went to Dimpus Burger and ordered a litre of cola…you should see the surveillance video of that inncident.
BiggieLaing, I made that joke 2 hours ago, you piece of shit.
Forgive him Enrico, he just a shadow of his former self.
Interesting little story. My dad was rushing a family friend down to see her husband in a Buffalo hospital in a very similar situation.
Ran a red light, cop pulled them over, he told them why, and got a police escort through the rest of the stop lights to the hospital.
Granted, it was Buffalo, not Texas. My Dad actually pulled over instead of continuing, but i’m going to have to go with #3 as the biggest difference, MY DAD IS NOT A BLACK MAN DRIVING A NICE VEHICLE IN TEXAS. This cop is fucked.
/dick joke, fart joke, pedophile joke.
Looks like Officer Powell didn’t get his Litre’a'Co….oh, nevermind.
Seems to me that he got treated like any player on the Texans should be.
