02.02.09 MOST OF THE SUPER BOWL ADS SUCKED
The first Doritos commercial last night was my favorite of the evening. A lot of the Super Bowl ads tried to use surprise violence to sell their product, but this was the only one that worked for me. It’s just better crafted than the Bud Light guy getting thrown out the window or the other Doritos guy getting hit by a bus. (FilmDrunk liked the Cash4Gold ad, which was pretty good, too.)
And a special note to Budweiser: NO ONE GIVES A SHIT ABOUT YOUR HORSES. A horse love story set to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”? Die. Oh, and how about Jake the immigrant horse? Why does a fourth-generation American horse have a Scottish accent? How are such obviously retarded people in charge of multi-million-dollar ad budgets?

The Miller High Life one-second commercial was much better when I thought that guy had said “HOLLA!”
The biz hasn’t been the same since Don Draper retired.
The Transformers/GI Joe commercials kinda gave me a nerd boner. kinda…
other commercials had heart, but snow globe in the groin had a snow globe in the groin.

The two guys that made that Doritos commercial were on the Today show this morning, which means one thing : they’ve made it to the big times.
I’m still “with it” even though I watched/mentioned the Today show, right? Heh, right?
The Hulu ad was, far and away, the best of the night. NO ONE DENIES THIS!
I made the same comment about the Scottish accent in the previous story and now I read this. Damn my 2nd grade level reading skills!!
What was with the Bob Dylan Pepsi commercial? Are they saying The Black Eyed Peas are our generation’s Dylan? That f’ing sucks.
Conan and MacGruber were OK. I think we can all agree that the lack of bukkake was unsettling.
Godaddy, stop already.
The Denny’s “serious breakfast” spot was good. And anything with Conan can’t be all bad.
That said, I had to watch all these damn ads again because every year I’m lucky to even remember who won the game.
