01.14.09 BADASS MINOR LEAGUE HOCKEY BRAWL
The Corpus Christi Ice Rays threw down with the fearsomely named Bossier-Shreveport Mud Bugs in late December, and the YouTube has just now made the Internet. It’s got everything: a brutal check for an opening salvo, a goalie fight, a body slam, players coming off the bench to fight, and an announcer with infectious enthusiasm.
One little quibble with the announcer from the word-nerd, though: when you call something a “melee,” it’s best to pronounce it meh-lay, not mee-lay, as there’s a difference between a disorderly brawl and the murder of hundreds of civilians in a Vietnamese hamlet. Although I suppose that could make a hockey game appealing in its own right. Anyway, next time just call it a “donnybrook.” That word’s got some real flair. And you know how I love flair.
