“Ow-ah fans ahh die-hahd! We suppaht this team no mattah what!”

Honestly, I’m afraid to write about this, lest the Red Sox see that someone has counted them out and they decide to go on one of those playoff win streaks they like to put together.  But there’s no denying the ass-whipping that happened last night: Tim Wakefield’s knuckler fooled no one, and the Rays cruised to a 13-4 victory that gives them a 3-1 series lead.

Evan Longoria hit his rookie-record fifth home run of the playoffs, Carl Crawford tied an ALCS record with five hits, and Willie Aybar homered and had four hits and five RBIs as pretty much everyone on Tampa Bay’s roster was better than anyone on Boston’s last night.

Game 5 is tomorrow night in Fenway, and it would be a real shame for all those die-hard Red Sox fans to have to sit through the Rays winning an AL pennant at their stadium.  And you know the fans would stick around.  They’ve stuck by the Red Sox all these years, through thick and thin, no matter what.  Especially the years they won the World Series.
