10.08.08 METS PITCHER QUESTIONED ABOUT HIT AND RUN
Mets pitcher Ambiorix Burgos, previously only known for having a first name that sounds like a prescription drug, has turned himself in to Dominican authorities. Whoa! He turned into Dominican authorities?!? That’s gotta be a great party trick.
No, but seriously, he may have killed two people:
The news comes after the mother of one of the two victims accused Burgos of intentionally running her daughter over because she refused to go out with him. Eudosia Ruane, mother of 29-year-old Angely Fana, told the AP she filed a report with police alleging homicide.
An arrest warrant had been issued for the 24-year-old reliever, who disappeared after the Sept. 30 accident that killed Fana and Josefina Minaya, 38. Burgos is accused of abandoning the victims and fleeing, charges that can carry six months to two years in prison.
Wow. That’s depressing. I guess if there’s silver lining to this, it’s that you can run over people in the D.R. and only spend six months in prison. And guilty or not, I think that’s a fair sentence for anyone who was in the Mets bullpen this season.

On the misery scale, I have to think 6 months in a Dominican jail is the equivalent of a 10 year sentence in federal lockup. Or 1 day as a Mets fan.
Tried to Google image search the victim to check here hotness and thus determine my level of sympathy, but it only kept spitting out pictures of bean burritos.
So…to get this straight. In the D.R., you actually have to file a report alleging murder? The police don’t look at the tire tracks on the victims and think: “Hmmm…possible homicide?”
It’s simply a difference of cultures. Had he killed two Dominicans in America, he would have received the Congressional Medal of Honor.
So I guess the Mets got at least one clutch hit that last weekend of the season.
If we really had a “justice” system, Aaron Heilman would be eligible for the death penalty.
