10.16.08 FAMOUS FENWAY SIGN BURNS
Just as Boston’s season began going down in flames, the Citgo sign that rises above the Green Monster in Fenway caught fire yesterday morning. It burned, burned I say! Burned like a Boston effigy! An effigy of, say, Bill Buckner, or a black man perceived as lazy.
Flames were actually visible from Storrow Drive during the fire, which caused $5,000 in damage, said Steve MacDonald, a spokesperson for the Boston Fire Department.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, which ignited just before noon. No one was injured. It was not immediately clear how long it would take to fix the sign.
Really? People care about a gigantic advertisement catching fire? Only in America would fans feel some kind of emotional connection to a giant sign for some gigantic corporation. Well, maybe Japan, too. “What a brave corporate logo!”

Well, he is disrespectful to dirt, thats pretty brave.
If you want flaming ads to go away, just don’t look. It’s got Paul Anka’s guarantee (guarantee void in Tennessee).
Buy Citgo! Can you not see that I am serious???
should’ve been you Fenway Park.
…and there’s your excuse for gas prices to start climbing again.
Maybe we should increase gas prices so that this beloved icon can be fixed.
Join me or die! Can you do any less?
