Over the summer, Nike pulled a series of ads with close-ups of guys getting dunked on that were considered homophobic because some folks interpreted them as construing male-on-male fellatio as bad or gross.  Or something like that.  I didn’t really feel like it was worth mentioning here.

Now, at Manhattan’s West 4th subway stop, some strikingly similar ads have resurfaced.  Copyranter at Animal New York opines:

I think this execution is actually much closer to homophobic than the first ones. I heard through the grapevine that the ad creatives at Nike agency Wieden + Kennedy responsible for the work were damn pissed about the ads being pulled. Looks like agency and client purposely decided to see if they could create another media kerfuffle.

So basically, all we have to do to beat Satan’s minions in the advertising realm is not give a shit about this ad.  Done and done.
