This duck has the Olympic spirit

The Chinese government, in addition to shooting dissenters and billing their families for the bullets, has issued a cartoon showing their overpopulated subjects how to properly cheer at this summer's Olympics Games, even going so far as to approve specified postures for young girls. Might I suggest "prone"?

A cartoon issued to provide extra guidance on top of the "Olympic cheering practice" sessions that have been held for workers around Beijing for the last year shows a young girl in the approved postures.

In the first frame she is beginning to clap; in the second, doing a thumbs-up gesture; in the third, clapping again; and in the fourth, holding both arms up in the air.

In time, she also chants: "Aoyun! Jia You! Zhongguo! Jia You!" – meaning "Olympics! Add petrol! China! Add petrol!"

"Add petrol!", the nation’s favourite sporting chant, is more usually translated as "Go, Go!"

I suppose that means the concerns about increased Chinese demands for energy having a detrimental affect on global supplies are not unfounded. I knew I didn't dream up that story in The Economist. You wouldn't believe how often that happens. These people even want to waste gasoline on something as frivolous as a sports cheer. I mean, like every red-blooded American I like to wade around in kiddie pools of unleaded gas. But it's at least 10 percent ethanol. I'm not wasteful or anything.
