The Sporting News has a feature on former Indians, Orioles and Mariners skipper Mike Hargrove making his return to the NCAA-sanctioned league team he played for briefly in 1972. That team is the Liberal BeeJays of Liberal, Kansas. How could anyone stay away?

The article is a pretty straight-faced look at a manager who got dealt bad hands in Baltimore and Seattle and his hoping to work his way back to the majors through managing a team of college players hoping to become professionals themselves one day. It doesn't even make light of the fact that Rich Harden used to play for the team. What? Just because the team has had the name for more than 30 years means it can't be an enduring source of sophomoric humor?

So, to Mike Hargrove, we wish you the best. Sure, the BeeJays may be Liberal, but that doesn't mean they're good. It's about quality in the big leagues. So suck it up and work on those BeeJay fundamentals. Hargrove is only getting $1  this summer but before long he'll be able to command much more for his services again. Probably his blow jobs too.
