UCLA IS GOOD AT BASKETBALL
03.07.08
This is about the point in the college basketball season where a casual fan such as myself will actually start paying attention. The conference tourneys are coming up (which are a tremendous waste of time), and the big brackets appear a few days after that (after the first weekend, same thing). I hate filling in tournament predictions without any information. On that note, we lead off with actual news today, as No. 3 UCLA clinched their 29th conference title by beating No. 7 Stanford last night. Kevin Love had 17 points and 10 rebounds for his 19th double-double of the season. How does it feel to win your first conference title, Kev?
“It feels great. We’re going to soak it all up.”
Glad I asked. One other result for you: No. 24 Clemson shit the bed in Atlanta against Georgia Tech last night. The Tigers, you might remember, won their first 18 games in 2006-07 but were relegated to the NIT after playing terribly in-conference. While UCLA has all but locked up a one-seed, Clemson still has an outside shot of missing the tournament after losing to the likes of mighty Charlotte and (aside from Maryland's choke job last weekend) no real quality road wins. These borderline big-conference teams are the ones that should be playing in that shitty play-in game in Dayton when the tournament starts, not the smaller schools that, while having less caché, actually managed to take care of business.

fucking hat trick of hot chicks. Cubs girl, locker room girl and now UCLA girl. What was this post about again ?
some guy named Ucla or something. I think he's swedish.
Do you think she knows her dress has a little tear on the side there? Someone ought to tell that yound lady about it.
Was this article about sports? Who knows – I stopped reading when I saw a hot blonde in a tiny dress. Does it matter if this article was about sports? Absolutely not.
I know it's somewhat verboten 'round here, but I need to boast about my alma mater's impressive accomplishment: going from two-time national champion to almost certain first-round NIT loss doesn't happen every day.
Christ, I can't wait for the AAFL to kick off.
She has small pom poms. Not that that matters.
I'm not gonna defend Clemson, because they suck and that guy in the bathroom holding towels could have easily been Class President (probably was), but I will say that a team in the SWAC, MACC, C-USA, etc is not comparable to a Team in the ACC. Clemson or Virginia would own those leagues, because the level of talent AND coaching in conferences like the ACC (also see SEC and a fraction of the sorry mess known as the Big East) is significantly higher.
Thats not to say I wouldn't enjoy seeing Clemson play in the play-in game just to shame them, but barring some miracle it would be a blowout.
I miss college…Nights full of parties, drinking lots of alcohol, and drugging cheerleaders….Good old days…sniff sniff….
Do the rings under her arm mean she's three years old?
Meh. UCLA is still Cal's annoying little brother. Even when Berkeley has a terrible season…
Hugh B. It's becuase their coach left them for the pros… Wait, what?
UCLA should have lossed. BS call in the last 2 seconds to give UCLA free throws to tie. Oh wait this post isn't about basketball? Yeah nice looking girl there.
aside from Maryland's choke job last
weekendmonth and a half. There it is. Fuckin' terps.
Because no one has yet to do it: Yes and Yes
@ DaiMac: I don't disagree. I'd just like to see schools like Clemson take stronger resume's to the tournament.
Plus I don't like seeing those little schools always stuck in that play-in game. You can't tell me those kids are getting the NCAA Tournament experience while playing on a Tuesday night in a half-empty airplane hangar.
@MMP: Yeah I agree with that, I think they should look at expanding the play-in into a mini-tourney of sorts, add two more teams and have an extra round basically, that would help generate better attendance of and excitement for those games.
This broad isn't nearly as hot when you consider that she's been laid by John Wooden's colostomy bag.
Agreed, Clemson played a pitiful schedule (177th) and didn't wow with any wins, but I'd rather see them make it and play Syracuse and give UNC a game in the second round rather than some 10-20 team that won the sun belt because the one bracket-worthy team shit the bed in the conference tourney. Or Cornell for that matter.
@ Alex
Clemson actually has the 35th ranked schedule in the country, not the 177th. Where did you find that number? They're in 3rd place in the #1 RPI conference in the country. They have wins against the following potential tournament teams- @ Mississippi State, Purdue, @ Maryland, and Miami and losses to UNC in OT and 2OT. I agree with everyone about all these fringe teams gettign into the tournament, but Clemson is not the team to get on. They've earned there way in. Check all the bracket projections around, they're slotted in as 5-7 seed. We should be getting on the major conference team slotted around 10-13.
Yes, i'm a clemson alum. From NY though… just a nice 4 year vacation with dumb blonde gorgeous southern broads.
