A blown call in a state championship basketball game has prompted two state lawmakers to draft legislation that would require future high school games to use instant replay.
House Speaker Pro Tem Doug Smith and Rep. Harold Mitchell's bill would require the South Carolina High School League to use instant replay to resolve disputed plays in football and basketball playoff games.
"Those kids played their hearts out only to have human error steal it away from them," said Mitchell, D-Spartanburg. "We want to make sure neither our high school, nor any other high school has to go through anything like this again."
Because we can legislate away our children's pain. Fuck you, sir. Young people in your jurisdiction will have to get their dreams crushed like everyone else's in this country. First of all, the National Federation of blah blah that governs high school sports has banned replay. Secondly, hey, shit happens. Some folks will never miss a call but then again some folk'll. This certainly matters for that critical "46 Year old in a bar at 2am telling everyone stories about that one time senior year they returned that punt for a touchdown to send our team to state, but the ref brought it back because he thought I stepped out of bounds" vote.
It may seem like a small percentage of constituents, but every small town in America has at least one of those dudes.
Wait a second…there's a South Carolina now?!?
What about my high school baseball career? THAT FUCKING BALL WASN'T FOUL!
I for one, would like to get the tapes from the cheerleading state championships, but just so I could, ummmmm, make sure there were no uncalled infractions….yeah, that's it, infractions….
Some folks'll never eat a squirrel and then again some folks'll!
LCPL, I HAD those tapes you speak of, but the prosecution got them. I will have them back by the end of the week, when the case gets thrown out on a technicality. God, I love rookie cops, and Maranda rights!
This is the exact opposite of what they should do. Officials for kids' sports should deliberately randomly fuck up things 6-8 times per game. Everyone invovlved needs to have the point driven home that the outcome of your goddam children's sports DO NOT MATTER, and you're a giagantic douchebag for caring who wins.
I've been reviewing instant replay of high school girl locker room footage for ages.
Does that bill also require them to wear helmets during the game? Do they get pascifiers on the bench?
I would like to personally review all of Allison Stokke's high school competitions, starting with her younger, sweatier years, of course.
As long as it's taking money OUT of the classrooms, I'm for it. If there's anything less meaningful than South Carolina high school sports, it's South Carolina high school school.
"I could call my mama while I'm up here….. Hey ma! Get off the dang'd roof!"
Cletus prefers to be called a "Hill-William".
should start with Instant Replay in college and let it work its way down the ladder from there. College needs it more than high school. Parents will let the Ref know if he made a mistake or not
