THE OBLIGATORY KEVIN GARNETT POST
07.31.07
Right now the big buzz — replacing the downers of Bill Walsh's death and Mike Vick's dogfighting case — is the potentially positive development of Kevin Garnett's impending trade to the Celtics.
The trade as reported: Garnett to the C's for Al Jefferson, Ryan Gomes, Sebastian Telfair, Gerald Green, Theo Ratliff's expiring contract, and future draft picks. Or, more succinctly: KG for Al Jefferson, chump change, and chumps. Predictably, fan boners are rock-hard all over the Internet, from the Sports Guy to MJD (whose headline-photo combo is downright frightening). And I haven't even gone over to CelticsBlog yet. I'm afraid I met get wet.
Are you ready for Rajon Rondo? Does this make the C's a contender? The automatic sacrificial lamb to the Western Conference? The answer, of course, is that I'm not gonna care until next April anyway, so why bother. Can you sense my ironic detachment? Not caring about things is what makes me so cool.

As a T-Wolves fan all I can say to all you Celtic fans out there is enjoy consistent double doubles through three quarters.
I tried to line shop at all the gambling sites to see what kind of odds I could get on the Celtics winning the Eastern Conference, but, even though the trade hasnt gone through yet, all the sites already have the Celts as the favorite to win the EC at 7/2. Getting way ahead of themselves, but bookies dont play around. They are not in the business of losing money.
Glad Bill Simmons took a day out his sabbatical to refute his previous column on why he wouldn't want Garnett to come to the Celts. God I LOVE the NBA.
They're still not a top 3 east team……Pierce is a beast, KG, although a Hall of Famer, isn't what he used to be, and Jesus Shuttlesworth hasn't been shit since he left Big State University.
So now Garnett can lose to Duncan in the Finals, not just the first round.
@Blackcapricorn: Simmons just found out that KG is into Mandingo parties and the Sports Gal hasn't had her fill lately.
@ Hardaway
Ray Allen is a seven time all-star, and one of the top five best shooters the game has ever seen.
WAS- no surprise there, her columns definitely suggest that she needs some North Dallas Forty treatment.
Kaiser……no disrespect to Allen and his sweet stroke, but there arent a ton of good 33 year old shooting guards out there.
They'll be in the conference finals or better, but there are still 3 or 4 teams in the West who will crush them in a 7-game series.
i'm still waiting for the obligatory Yoko pic since Dice K pitched Sunday.
is that young larry bird next to him
Kevin McHale absolutely infuriates me.
And don't get me started on Simmons- his man love for KG after years of shitting on him will not be amusing.
As a lifelong Celtics fan, I honestly don't know what I'm more excited about right now – the Celtics being relevant again, or finding out who's now tonight. Will it be LeBron, Shaq, or Tiger? I'm on pins and needles!
Even with this lineup, the Celtics will still get beat by the Cavs. LeBron can't be stopped and Sideshow Bob is getting better every year. Add that Russian hitman they got playing 2-guard and i think they can still beat the Celts. These three totally cancel out the Celts three and they play better team defense.
Tim Donaghy has the Celts at 4-1 to win the east
The Celtics are definitely NOW.
