06.20.07 VIN BAKER GOT DRUNK. THEN HE DROVE.
It must be Turn Back the Clock Day, because Vin Baker — whose NBA career was plagued by drinking problems — was arrested due to his drinking problems.
Baker, whose 14-year NBA career was marred by bouts of depression and alcoholism, was charged early Tuesday with drunken driving after leaving an eastern Connecticut casino. Baker, 35, was spotted driving erratically after leaving Foxwoods Resort Casino, according to a state police report. He failed a sobriety test and was charged with driving while impaired.
This is where it would be nice of me to express some concern for Baker's problems, but… nah. His implosion is the main reason I stopped loving the SuperSonics, which is saying a lot, because there's a special place in hell for Jim McIlvaine and his $33.6 million dollar contract.
Besides, NBA players aren't supposed to have problems with booze. They're supposed to get in trouble for marijuana use and being too black for David Stern's comfort. Leave the alcoholism to the professionals who are meant to be drunks — people like writers, heavy equipment operators, and my parents.

Don't forget to add these to your list of drunks: Teen starlets/music stars, Washed up 'Baywatch' actors, and the Top-notch athletes from the Hobolympics.
Gosh, I hope Bill Simmons posts the lyrics to the Foxwoods Resort and Casino jingle. That's always so funny.
I actually was talking to a bum the other night and it turned out to be Slim Vin. He bummed a cigarette then wet himself.
Jim McIlvaine, ah sweet, sweet Bullets memories.
Way to find a pic that features both Vin and ANDREW FUCKING DECLERQ.
Didn't Baker get to Seattle as part of the Kemp trade? If so, Sonics fans should cut him some slack. You traded an alcoholic with paternity problems for an alcoholic with manic depressive problems. That's pretty much a wash. Kemp was probably more fun to party with, but at least Baker wasn't always asking to borrow $50K for his baby mama.
No unsurprising stories tag on this one?
The Sonics of the early 90's were basketball-bionic!
(Only someone living in Seattle at the time gets that reference, I know.)
Is that DeClerq or a very early, un-inked Cherokee Parks?
Wait, drinking and driving is illegal? How am I supposed to buy more beer, by magic?
If there's one thing a depressed person should get hooked on, it's a depressant. A second thing would be phonics. Shit changed my life yo.
Was he depressed before he moved to Seattle? Discuss.
Was he depressed before he moved to Seattle?
I think he was in Milwaukee, so… yes.
Poor Vinny, I think he finally was off the payroll of the Cs last month and now a DUI…
Mr. Baker then proceeded to then miss another 18 consecutive free throws during the booking. And by "free throws", I mean "vomit attempts into a trash can".
This is only…
a test.
Jim McIlvaine- the white Jon Koncak
….oh wait…..
