I just got off the phone with Ken Jackson, the Chief Magistrate of Jasper County, Georgia. And he confirmed that Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman has a hearing set for late Friday morning that will address the fracas that occurred in Monticello early Sunday morning, with the alleged face-kicking and gun-pulling and what have you.
Sooooo… uh, anybody in the mainstream media want to cover this? I've heard whisperings that ESPN's Len Pasquarelli can't move forward with the story until the hearing actually happens, but since I'm not a journalist (hello, obviously), I don't know how this whole thing works. I also contacted Mark Curnutte, the Bengals beat reporter for the Cincinnati Enquirer, but I've yet to hear back from him.
Oh, and the kind people at Pro Football Talk have confirmed the report, as well. Nice work, guys. (And to think, I spent all night working on that retraction, only to be RIGHT ALL ALONG.)
UPDATE: More from WLWT (via FanHaus), which reports that police have little evidence, making it a "he said, she said" situation. The hearing will determine if charges are filed.
SECOND UPDATE: The .pdf file of the complaint is available HERE. Basically it says: different people have filed complaints against Odell and Willie Thurman for aggravated assault, criminal trespass, and pointing a gun at someone; no warrant has been issued; and the probable cause hearing is Friday at 11:00.

I don't believe for a second that that picture posted of the "supposed" facial injury sustained due Odell's allegedly assaulting a party-goer is what it is claimed to be. As an employee of a local ER I've seen new lip lacerations due to assault. That is NOT what they look like. Not to mention… if Odell "supposedly" beat someone's ass and that was the picture, I'd think that there would be more trauma to the face than just an old healed lip laceration. I'll believe it when I hear the guilty verdict since this merely sounds like a bunch of punk ass kids merely trying to ruin someone's career.

If you actually followed or listened to credible sources such as ESPN or SI.com you would here straight from Peter King or Tom Jacksons mouth that PFT is the most credible and acclaimed NFL news wire out there. Enough of this PFT vs. WL crap. They're very different sites and they both offer something to their readership. PFT tantalizes with false promises of Brett Favre's retirement and they break major stories that pan out. With Leather focuses more on the humor and the occasional scoop like this one. They can both exist on the same internet, it's a big place with lots of tubes for everyone.
Oh and Se44, PFT and ESPN or SI can't all be the credible source on a story. If PFT breaks the story then they are the source and ESPN is merely reporting it (with or without credit depending on the situation).
