The Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim stole game 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs with a thrilling 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Ottawa Senators last night. At least, I'm guessing it was thrilling. I didn't happen to watch it myself, but I looked at some pictures and people seemed pretty stoked about it. So, hooray!
Unfortunately, the game was overshadowed by the third-period tragedy that killed dozens of fans who were trapped in a large glass box without air. Anaheim center Ryan Getzlaf (pictured) tried to break the fans out of their airless grave before it was too late, but failed. So sad.

It appears the majority of those killed were Anaheim Ducks fans, so actually the loss is minimal.
Dozens were killed? The people at Versus will no doubt be bummed to learn that their viewership has been cut in half.

We’re going into June and there’s still hockey being played? I don’t want to hear a peep out of anyone who complains about baseball having a long season.
I thought the only things that died in Anaheim were hopes and dreams.
My I am a Mighty Duck T-shirt is starting to smell worse than my playoff beard. Only three…maybe five games left to go before I can wash the shirt and shave the scratch.
Up until last night, the best game played in that arena was Team USA’s comeback victory over Iceland in the chmapionship of the Goodwill Games. Gordon Bombay would have been proud.
Oddly enough Allison Stokke’s father will now store her in a protective glass box. I cannot blame him.
Though thinking of the Ducks still brings back memories of the shattering of Emilio Estevez’s fragile career (look out Duane “The Rock” Johnson), Anaheim is one of the biggest, toughest teams in the NHL, and their hard play and the NHL’s bad officiating continued last night when Ottawa’s Mike Comrie was checked SIX TIMES in the back before a call was finally made. This would be equal to about 3 times Robert Horry throwing Steve Nash into the scorer’s table (due to the Canadia exchange rate). In any event, any game that has Cuba Gooding Jr. being interviewed in the stands to once again prove there is a large Hollywood and black NHL fan contingent, HAS to be good.
