The NHL suspended Calgary Flames goalie Jamie McLennan for the next five games of the playoffs:
McLennan was given a match penalty for slashing Detroit's Johan Franzen in the midsection at 17:01 of the third period, one of four penalties the Flames were assessed for aggressive and illegal use of the stick (slashing or cross-checking) in the closing minutes of the Red Wings' 5-1 victory.
Hey, that's part of the game isn't it? Everyone knows you've got to keep your head on swivel when you're embarrassing your opponent. Apparently, all the Flames were taking some cheap shots in the third period:
[Calgary captain Jarome] Iginla took hooking and cross-checking minors in the final minute. "Even their captain, he should be in charge and he was one of the guys who probably embarrassed himself because too many penalties for no reason," Hasek said before Game 6. "I think it was embarrassing."
Hold on a sec, Dominik – who is embarrassed? Are you embarrassed for him like I am for George Clooney when I watch old episodes of The Facts of Life? Or are you saying Ingila should be embarrassed but he's not like Ben Affleck should be for every project post Good Will Hunting. I'm confused, and it would sure help if Mrs. Garrett or Robin Williams could explain this. Either way, hockey takes a violent turn. I'm shocked. -KD
Picture note: Lovely Tailor is from Canada, so I assume she is a hockey fan.

McLennan, which is Canadian for Douche Bag, was in for all of about 17 seconds. This guy sees about as much time in games as anyone who has backed up Brett Favre. Teams have been specifically warned about violence at the end of lopsided games – and the Flames still were like school in July: no class (Thank you, “Scrubs”). Hopefully they’ll be bounced by the end of tonight.

Hail- McLennan’s lack of ice time is exactly why he did what he did.
Kippersoff carried his team to a game six despite being outshot almost 2-1. He was getting run into all series and when the game was lost, they pulled him and the backup took the illeagal chops that their team’s MVP couldn’t afford to.
When Kipper returned to the net, the Flames were the beneficearies of a goaltender interference penalty that the team wouldn’t have gotten had McLeannan not pressed the issue. Also, the guy he slashed (Franzen) clearly wasn’t so wounded that he couldn’t score the gamewinner in double OT two nights later. The better team won, but it took them a hell of lot longer than it should have, thanks to a great performance by an amazing goaltender.
McLeannan deserves the thanks of his team for what he did, and I’m guessing Kipper helps him pay his fine.
Also, hockey’s a tough game, and if you have a problem with guys taking liberties like that to give the star players room, I guess you’ll be wanting the Rangers to cut Sean Avery?
Also, this:
“McLennan, which is Canadian for Douche Bag”
Canadians speak French and English. “Douche Bag” is …French and English.
Keep watching Scrubs, dude.
