By taking the checkered flag at yesterday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega, Jeff Gordon earned his 77th career win, surpassing Dale Earnhardt for fifth place on the all-time wins list (Richard Petty is first with 200). NASCAR fans expressed their pleasure with Gordon's victory by offering him free beverages, littering the track with beer cans when the race ended.
Obviously, this is a classless, disgusting, dangerous act, and it should only ever be done in European and South American soccer stadiums and wherever Barry Bonds hits his 756th home run.
(The video is from Saturday's Busch Series race. Not really related to the story, but a lot more fun to watch.)

jeff gordon won?…..thats fucking bullshit
I put it up there with NBA basketball. Who cares. And that’s a statement not a question.
yeah, bring on the boobz already
Gunner was clearly sling-shotting those beverages with his leg brace.
The NBA and NASCAR can both go away and never come back.
So can all you commenters who do nothing but hate on the sports you don’t like until a hockey post finally comes along.
Step up to the plate and say something funny instead of bitching. It would make my job a lot more fun.
All I’m wondering is how far is too far on the first date?
You stay classy, Talladega! do they have can deposit refunds in Alabama?? If they do, some Redneck is going to be eatin’ good tonight!!!
I was expecting someone to throw a baby on the track.
Hey…what happened to the last mile??? The Aaron’s 499??? isn’t it 500???
Do they just stop in the middle of the track at the end of the race?
LOL@ Big Jim Slade……..I dont get the hate for Jeff Gordon. Then again, I have never watched a minute of a NASCAR race and have never slept with my sister. She’s out of my league. Anyway, could someone explain the Gordon hate? Is it like baseball fans hating the Yankees or football fans hating the Cowboys?
Also, dont get on Matt’s bad side today…..he’s still mourning the loss of a Darrell Jackson.
Hardaway…being from Michigan, which can be half redneck at times, I think they hate him because he’s not a “good ‘ol boy”…a little to northern, and he always seems to beat the favored rednecks on the track…you can see the “F.A.G.” signs at the races…Fans Against Gordon….just hillbilly’s doin’ what they do best…bein’ stupid!
LCPL is right. Gordon not being from the south plus his clean-cut appearance and huge media exposure soured a lot of people on him, plus he’s not as manly as say Dale Senior.
He’d kinda be like the A-Rod of NASCAR. Too good, too media friendly, too polished. Not a choker in October though.
Gotcha. Thanks.
NASCAR fans hate Gordon because he’s not of their kind. Hicks who think the south won the civil war, and think George Bush is the greatest American president should give you a good idea of the type of person you’re looking at. And Jeff Gordon represents the complete opposite of what they are so naturally they don’t like it.
only problem with hating on Jeff Gordon is that nowadays, the majority of Nascar drivers are exactly like him. Look at Stewart, Busch, Johnson, etc. they are all pansy asses and not a tobacco chewer among them.
@skinfan….I agree, but it’s so ingrained in the beer soaked brains of the hardcore fans to hate him, they can’t see the rest are all carbon copies…heck, Dale Jr. is half a pansy ass himself…
I just wanna ask these Dale Sr.-loving toothless pricks one thing – if “The Intimidator” was such a great driver, then why is he dead? Huh? Stop hating, you beer-tossing mongoloids, and start congratulating. GO GORDON! 24 FOREVER!
Although others have explained the Gordon hate well, I also want to point out that Jeffy is also known as the “Rainbow Warrior” – or at least he was. Not exactly a hick-friendly moniker. And, to be fair, it’s not just southerners. I’m from NH. There’s lots of NASCAR love to be had up there. Although most folks I know are Junior or Stewart fans.
Gordon was the harbinger of corporate Nascar. Nascar was the iconoclast of sports in the 80s/90s. The primary sport sponsor was a tobacco company when tobacco companies werent allowed on TV. It was an everyman’s marketing concept versus marketing for the privileged few. It is a weird dichotomy of every car being sponsor driven, with a disgorgement of marketing for a cornucopia of cornpone(up to the Gus’s Chicken Shack sticker on the right rear quarter panel, visible only during pitstops), versus the high dollar sponsorship magnetism and media friendly visage of a Californian. The former being acceptable and the latter being a travesty. That Stewart, Johnson, Edwards et al. have come since then and have gained acceptance is a testament to the provence of the Nascar fan to gracefully accept the change. Gone are the days of the guys who drove on the weekends for fun, and drove during the week to get the white lightning to the good folk without Cletus and Sheriff Rosco catching them. The lament remains, and Gordon rightfully or wrongfully bears the brunt of responsibility for ruining the sport of the Allisons, the Pearsons, the Pettys, and others.
Obviously, this is a classless, disgusting, dangerous act, and it should only ever be done in European and South American soccer stadiums and wherever Barry Bonds hits his 756th home run… you forgot to mention Long Island. (ZING!)
Oh, and to keep myself away from the haters, I’ll be changing my icon. I’m like Michael Vick – blog-post-style.
THE BEER!!!! THE PRECIOUS BEER!!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
go go go go go….. and left!
