02.28.07 SOMETIMES I MISS THE 90S
Mike Conley, Jr. hit a tough layup to give Ohio State its final lead against a stubborn Wisconsin team on Sunday, and — as Bill Simmons pointed out on his basketball blog — hoops skills run in the family. Even though Mike Conley, Sr. wasn't a pro cager, his skills as an Olympic gold medalist in the triple jump translated pretty well to this Foot Locker dunk contest of yesteryear.
Conley Sr's competition included Junior Griffey and Deion Sanders, and you know it was a long time ago, because they're both rocking Kid n Play fades, and Griffey doesn't pull a hamstring (that we can tell).

INSANE! TWO HANDED FROM THE FOUL LINE!
jose- you should see James White go between the legs from half a step further back.
I would have expected more flash from Prime Time, a bit of a letdown for me.
I’m gonna be that “youtube guy” - what is the music in the first few seconds. Sounds familiar but I can’t place it.
This just in - former Olympic track athletes can jump really far. I’m upset Carl Lewis wasn’t somehow featured.
Speaking of Kid ‘N Play fades…did anyone see that flashback to Steve Nash in college on Sportscenter a couple days ago? Rough.
I remember looking forward to this contest every weekend as a kid. However, if it wasn’t for this contest, I would have been spared listening to Dick Vitale and having my brain traumatized before it was mature enough to handle it.
Anyone else find it odd that Mike Conley Sr. was a vastly better dunker than Mike Conley Jr. currently is? I’m sure Junior can dunk, but I’ve seen him go for layups every time he’s had a partial breakaway. His mom must have no hops.
Saw the James White clip…WOW.
I love these as a kid; Foot Locker used to give out sports cards of the entrants; I think I still have Bo Jackson’s…I also remember the crowd going bonkers for Mark Henry…he was a 400lb+ olympic powerlifter..
